Add external games
Is there a way to get games you own outside of steam as steam games? Ideally, I'd have all my games on steam, so here's hoping there's a way.

You can add non-steam games by clicking 'add a game...' at bottom left and then clicking 'add non-steam game'. It will show up on Steam when you're playing and also you'll have Steam overlay.
It depends on the game and where you bought it.

You can add it as a non-Steam game, but that's just a shortcut for convenience, it won't add the game to your Steam account.

And this is what we call instant feedback. Thanks random people!:MrFoster:
Showing up and having an overlay should be close enough for me, though I suppose I'd prefer actually adding them. Wonder what will happen if I link origin games to steam....

you can add non steam games to your library, but its not quite like adding them to steam, youll be able to access the steam overlay but it wont track hours or give you access to a community hub or achievments or things liek that. you also cant patch or download it from steam. only some retail games can be added to steam.
heres a list of retail keys that can be actually added to your account https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-wusf-3601
