Bullet registry and recoil problems in Valve games

Hi !

I created this thread to talk about the recoil &amp; bullet registry problem in Valve games.
This will be a long post with many pictures/films/game demos. We would be grateful for your opinion if you read/watch all of them and give us some help with the problem.


For few years me and many people on CS/CS:Source/Day of Defeat/and even Left 4 Dead scenes are encountering the problems with bad bullet registration and/or tragically working recoil.


Bullet registry has broken up for about 2 years ago, and recoil is not the same for everyone.


Don’t you think sometimes when someone frags you from about the other end of the map with a single shot - how did he do that ?


Is it a cheat ? - No
He is very skilled ? - Maybe yes, but in most situations it’s not that obvious. If he has everything working perfectly, like in this video :

Then he just needs to aim at the head and pull the trigger - voilla, we have a nice kill.

Then I have one question - how skilled must be 2nd Player to kill the 1st one ? It's a matter of luck only, even if you’re much more skilled than the opponent.
That should not go that way, everyone should have the same gameplay and chances to play. But reality shows something totally different.

As you can see, the difference between those two recoils are quite big, enough to make the game almost unplayable at competitive level.


We tried to solve this problem on our own way. We read tons of guides how to make the game work properly, tried to find the problem in software – defragmenting hard disk, cleaning the system registry etc. , tried to run games on different Operating Systems – from Windows XP SP0 to Windows 7 64Bit, tried different motherboard/graphic/bios driver configurations, almost everything you can do with your PC. Effect – NOTHING WORKED.

Most of the players say that this type of problem don’t exist – they say that this problem is only our imagination. But just look at the screens and films/demos – you will see that we are telling the truth.


In some kind of elimination mode we ruled out the problem of software, OS or internet. It’s a hardware + game files problem. We also know which file of Valve games is corrupted – we have founded it totally unexpected.
The broken file is the Client.dll library in the games folders.
The instructions that are contained in it are differently interpreted by different hardware configurations – in fact we receive 1.perfect gameplay, or 2.horrible bullet registration and recoil problems that made the game almost unplayable.

It’s not a problem of one type of machines – some of us have 2 or more PC’s in our houses, and the problem occurs in most of them. For example :

Machine 1:
Amd Athlon X2 240
3GB Ram
GeForce 9800GT

Verdict : Bad bullet registration and bad recoil

Machine 2(notebook):
Amd Turion X2
GeForce 7200
2GB Ram

Verdict : The same problem as Machine 1

Machine 3
Amd Athlon XP 2200+
GeForce 2Ti 64MB
512MB Ram

Verdict : Low framerate, but the recoil is correct


As you can see, on 2 from 3 PC’s the game don’t work properly. THIS IS ONLY A LITTLE EXAMPLE, on forums you can find many more configurations with Intel/AMD processors, GeForce/Radeon cards that don’t work properly with Valve games.


We have found out the problem with client.dll file when we tried to watch this problem in Counter Strike : Condition Zero Deleted Scenes. In this game the problem doesn’t exist on ANY computer. The recoil is perfect and the registry is much better than in other games. We tried to import that file into Counter-Strike 1.6 . To do that, you need to copy the .DLL file to your cl_dlls folder in Counter-Strike from CS:CZ Deleted Scenes and make the “read only” attribute on the file.
Of course, many things don’t work as they should in CS 1.6 with this file(for example sounds, sprites etc.) but the problem with bad recoil and registry should be gone. Also, the problem doesn’t exist in the old CS 1.3 WON version of the game. If you use the .DLL file from it, it would run properly too.


Important is fact that the bad registry problem is not the domain of only Counter-Strike and other GoldSrc engine games. It also happens in Source games, such as CS:Source, Day of Defeat : Source, and even in Left 4 Dead series. Don’t you think something is strange with this fact that only in Valve games we are having this problem ?
We have played many games, such as Call of Duty series, Battlefield series and other multiplayer FPS games, and we encountered the problem only in Valve games.


Of course, we were writing messages to Steam Support, including in-game demos, films, screenshots and all types of evidence of the problem. In response they said that we need to delete the game folder/check the integrity of files/play on default settings. If this did not work, they said that it’s the internet problem and the discussion ended – even when we told them that this problem is on LAN, on our own servers, even with bots.
After that they did not even tried to response on our messages – they are simply using a bot to talk back to our messages that “They are investigating the problem”. And it ends like this for about a year and nothing has changed.


After we investigated the problem with .DLL file, we reported it to the Support.
We asked them, did they worked on the problem or they are still investigating. They have respond that they cannot answer that question.


After these years, we still try to solve the problem. Maybe some of you really know the problem and can help the community to run those games properly ? Maybe together we can find a way to repair them and once again enjoy playing our favorite games ?
Also, we are looking for help to publicize the affair, so that developers will make some moves to fix up games. Especially, if any of you, dear users, have contact to developers and can send them this message, we will be grateful for your help.

Hey All and especialy Hrs 20 for making this tread!

I had exactly this problem, and no one belived in me, allmost they laugh. But I think there are some people who dont understand these Things, cos they are not expirence themselfs.
Sadly, cos its destroying the games totally. I have seach on Google for 10 years for a solution, and find out alot of people having this. Many of my freinds just stopped playing.. Cos they couldnt understand the bad reg. I like the game so much so I couldnt quite.

I have seen all comments in this tread, and I see how people are saying that its a question about rates and internet even though you write that it also happening in steam offline.. Maby it would help if people read the tread carefully before answering with stupidness and so on!

When I first saw this tread I though holy.. That is what Im experince. So its not only me.

I have tried almost everything like you, and rates and loggin in as admin and so on dont help at all. My recoil is totally wild and hit reg is not there at all. Its in all steam games and I mean real every steam game. Even in CT-Zero deleted scenes I think cos I have never played it, but I downloaded this noght to see if lag was gone, but it didnt felded like that.

Here is a tread I made long time ago(below), and I also like you contacted Valve, and they said I should uninstall the game (also in regedit and so on). I did so but without any succes "lag" is still there.

Days ago I brought a new steam account, just to see if the lag was related to that, but it was not. Maby some would call it stupid but when you have lag like me for 10years now you try to spent Money, cos I remb. how cool this game where when it worked;P

I hope we can get some understanding for this problem, and I have also tried to play offline and only with bots, and the game is just still crap..

I have played with same problem on diffenrt computers like you have, and the "lag" - bad reg - strange keyboard and mouse lag is still there.

I try to post this tread to Valve to see what they say. Maby the problem can be difficult to solve, but they should know the problem is there, and there are some people that payed for this game, and cant play it because of this. I even payed twice, because I would see if that solved it. I have played with alot of different mouse and keyboard so the problem is not related to that also fully updated all drivers and so on. Vertical sync. off. Made every possible videosetting. Played with both Ati and Nvidia. The problem could easy be a corupted file as U say. Why should I else have this in steam offline mode with disable internet connection. On 3 differend pc. I have tried diffenret isp. Cos in the start I though it was internet related.

When I play any steam game, its like every enemy see me before I see them even them with high ping and bots. Its both in DOD 1.3 DODS and CSS. I got low ping/latency around 30-40 my fps is app.100 and I got a fast computer. So it should easy could run 1.3 eg. But I see people when Im dead, and its so frustrating that get very angry every time I play:/ I was a super player 7 years ago, but suddenly the "lag" came. It dont look like lag cos the grafix is smooth, but people see me 1 sec. before I see them. I have triede alot of thing to prevent it, but nothing helps.. The funny thing is Im the only player wich this happens for.. My rates are fine and cl_interp is 0.01 and sometimes I got shot around corners so it looks like cheat.. Further I cant shot trough walls(shotable walls) and not trough 2 enemys in row.. Then the first 1 only dies. I have defragmentet and checked fore mallware and virus. Its like a problem in steam or the hole com. but I have exp. the same problem at 3 diffend com. with diffend modem and so on..

Its happening on all servers? Low resolution in setup. My connection settings on steam is fine and so on. Freinds and cloud turned off. Launch options and autoexec I also tested both with and without. Nothing helps.

Got no choke and loss?

Cpu fan speed is fine. (remb. I said I played this on 3 diff. computers.)

The game seems smooth but this recoil and mouse and keyborad lag is driving me quazy.

That being said....I get shot around corners sometimes (or after I have run beyond a corner). It has little to do with you but between you, the server, other players and the games lag compensation.

Cl_lc and Cl_lw I tryed with no succes.

I played with this lag on both Windows XP and Windows 7

I hope we can find a solution with Valve to solve this. It cant be true. I shall copy game files from one game to another cos they dont fix it.It's about time Valve realize this and are responsealbe for the Things people pay Money for and not just dont answer people cos they dont admit there is a error.

But of cause problems are easy to negliate or shhh insted of take care of it and get a dialog.

I write so much so you can see I so sad about it. And is has taken 10years of life cos no1 belive in me and others having this.

Im totally sure. I expirence it even in dod 1.3 on my very old computer. When I broth the com. nothing it worked perfectly in the start it worked perfect.. but suddenly it came and on my 2 next computers it has been there form the start, dispite they both was better that the old one. It has been there since. So I relly think is at Valve the fault lyes. I have read alot of people complaning about offline lag, even with good pc's. I dont know what its but something is very very wrong. Im very open for suggestions.. But I feel I have tryed eventhing and consider not to play anymore, cause I get so angry about it and thats not fair for the other playes, Who constantly shall here me talk about the problem. I just wonna play the game, its very hard for me when people dont belive in my problem.. But I understand why they dont, cos it makes no sense at all.. Its like beeing seek but cant find the reason.. I dont know where the error lyes, but with this tread I try to call attention on det problem for all Who suffer from it..

ps. I try sometimes when I play the problem disapire abit.. Therefor I know it should work propperly. Its like something is pulling the wrong way but suddenly the game just fly with good reg etc. but only for a shot amount of time, then the problem is back.. Its random when it goes away. I have defrag.. I helps abit but not much. I also ran verifygame files and so on.

I dont think Valve ever fix this despite so many players suffer from it. I didnt even get a answer for stemsupport last time I wrote them. So Im totally finish with buying new Steam games, cos I know the lag is in all games.

Its sad to say that cos I like many of the games very much but now I only play the games I already have despite the lag thing, but the games are not fun, when you shot some 1 and the dont die and you get shot around corners and recoil and keybord movement are delayed.

Many people dont even know they have the lag, just think the game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥, but its because of this lag and steam are doing nothing.. They just made a update today and I watch it, and nothing about the recoil/bullet lag is solved so steam fails again.

I heard you can try to turn off sound in console> -nosound or plug headphones into frontpanel cos some say it maby realtek causing recoil lag I did it and recoil where perfect for very shot while so its only a little fix but also if people will se if they have the lag without even knowing.

thanks bro, i plugged my headphones into front panel and now i have perfect recoil
