Two years ago, during an extended visit, my 40-something sister (who plays the occassional ipad game) found an offline copy of Bioshock on Mum's pc (my old pc) and managed to finish it on her own.
Last year, she slogged her way through Bioshock 2 … (Although it was painful as a gamer to watch because she hasn't mastered the concept of strafing!)
Other ideas: Portal, Trine, Torchlight, Papo & Yo[www.humblebundle.com], To the Moon[www.humblebundle.com] (currently both on sale for $1, Humble Indie Bundle X), Miasmata, Terraria, Limbo, FEZ, Dear Esther.
But since she doesn't like CoD or strategy like games, I'd suggest maybe Fez, Super Meat Boy, Braid, Hotline Miami (May be too violent for her tastes), Psychonauts (Great art style and is pretty much a classic), Bully Scholarship Edition (Because who doesn't love this oldie?), Bit.Trip Runner 1 or 2, To The Moon (More of an interactive story game, but girls like that right?), Plants Vs Zombies (My gf LOVES this), Peggle (Addictive like crack). Platformers are a good start for anyone and puzzles are too! Hope you find her something she'll enjoy! If I think about any more I'll be sure to post some here.
Yeah violence if we can stay away from that, that would be great haha. But thanks Aburdeen for the info yeah If you think of any more let me know. So far I have garrys mod that she might like but I can try all the indie games like Fez and not sure what To The Moon is but I can check that out.
anytime :) if you know anyone looking to buy it send them my way. im never going to use it

I did mention *first* that Papo & Yo[www.humblebundle.com] and To the Moon[www.humblebundle.com] can be had for a mere $1 from Humble Indie Bundle X.
edit: there's also a bunch of them, so finding something she'll enjoy shouldn't be too hard. Indiana Jones, Star Wars, LotR, Harry Potter, Marvel superheros, etc. etc.
