Unified Remote causes controller problems
I searched the forums here for this information but found nothing. Apologies if it is a re-post.

I have found that Unified Remote causes problems in some games using a controller in Windows 7, specifically an Xbox 360 controller.

Games known to be an issue:
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons
Batman: Arkham City

These games apparently choose the Unified Virtual HID driver to be the default game controller instead of the actual controller. To fix the issue, run "RemoteServer.uvhid.exe" and type "fail" followed by return. Then uninstall the Unified Virtual HID driver from the driver manager. You can use the Portable version of Unified Remote just fine, but the installed version seems to cause this issue.

I had the same root problem with the game unknowingly trying to use an undesired controller in current year 2023 with Windows 11. My problem was I have a computer with a built in controller (GPD WIN Max 2) but was trying to use a wireless controller. I leave the switch for the built in controller to always be controller instead of mouse so the game (I was playing One Piece Pirate Warriors 3) was choosing to use the built in controller instead of the Xbox one controller. All I did was switch the built in controller to mouse with the physical switch the GMP devices usually have and I am now able to use my Xbox controller.

If your device doesn't have a physical switch for the built in controller you may have to disable the controller with software or in device manager temporarily while you are not wanting to use it.

Hope this helps somebody out there. :)
