Can't connect to Steam, and can't use offline mode.
Hey there everybody. So, full disclosure, I'm using a long-range WiFi antenna to pick up nearby open networks for my internet.
Steam has been working fine, but I recently had to switch networks, as the one I was on was having problems and kept going offline (including Steam).

Now, the new connection I'm on is working fine, but Steam didn't re-connect, leaving me in offline mode, despite the fact that I was still able to browse the web. I thought this was pretty odd, so I decided to just restart Steam, thinking that might fix it. However, when it re-started and I attempted to log in, it's gave me this error:

"Could not connect to the Steam network.

It appears that you are not connected to the Internet, or that your Internet connection is not configured correctly for Steam.

Either check your connection and click 'Retry', or start Steam in 'Offline Mode'."

So, after re-trying a couple of times, and having it give me the same error, I tried looking up a few solutions. Here's some things I tried:

- I tried deleting the "ClientRegistry.blob" file found in the Steam folder. Then I restarted Steam and tried to log in. This did not fix my problem.
- I closed out of both Peerblock and uTorrent and made sure the processes weren't running in task manager, as I know they can sometimes interfere with Steam.
- I checked my firewall to see if I had Steam as an exception (which I did). for the sake of due diligence, I disabled my firewall briefly and tried to connect. This did not fix my problem.
- I tried to do some Port Forwarding. I found the proper ports listed in the Steam troubleshooting guide here: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=8571-GLVN-8711
I was only able to forward those ports on my local router, but not the router that I am connected to over WiFi using my long-range antenna.

That last one might be the problem, and if so, it's not fixable (As I don't have access to the router I'm connected to, or it's settings). However, it's worth noting that Steam has worked previously when I connected to different routers in the area.

Anyway, after trying all of these, I decided to call it quits and figured I'd just connect to Offline Mode, since it's giving me the option for it. However, as soon as I click the Offline Mode button, instead of bringing me to my Game Library, it takes me back to the login screen. No error message, just a brief flash of the "logging you in" window, and then it's back to the login screen.

This is the really odd part, and makes me think there's something different here that is screwing things up, and it's not just some unforwarded ports. The worst part is, now I can't even access ANY of my Steam games.

It's also worth nothing that I have now waited a few hours, tried all of these solutions again, and it still hasn't fixed anything.
If anybody has any ideas on some more things I could try, let me know.

can not connect to steam network
Yeah, so It's been a day now, and I'm still having this problem. BUMP.
I'm having the same issue...and have yet to find a solution. However, I'm connected on my own router and dunno what it is I'm supposed to do/change.

Why not asking the person who runs the "new network"?

Wasn't really an option. The router I was connected to was simply open & they didn't set up a password on their router.
Anyway... the long range antenna was only a temporary solution, and now that I have my own internet it's working fine for me once more... so I guess that was the root of the problem, after all.

If it's happening on your own network, I would suggest trying to forward some ports. Specifically, the ones listed in Steam's troubleshooting guide: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=8571-GLVN-8711

If you don't know how to forward ports, portforward.com will give you a handy guide: http://www.portforward.com

If you properly forwarded the required ports and it's still not working, I would try contacting your ISP. I know some (mostly smaller) ISPs block it on their end, due to bandwidth concerns.

Hope this helped! :)
