Awesomium.dll ? Flagged as virus / trojan ?
I had just recently started a download of both Blacklight Retribution and Planetside 2 here on Steam. Within a few seconds of starting the downloads my Norton Security gave me this critical alert...

Suspicious.Cloud.9B

Listing this directory - c:/games/steam/steamapps/downloading/218230/launchpad.libs/awesomium.dll

The awesomium.dll file was flagged as a trojan and was removed.

What the hell is this .dll file? Which game did it come from?

and most importantly... is it a legitimate threat?

It's a game file that Norton deleted because it looked like a trojan. Whitelist steam folders to avoid this.
Thank you for the reply, but I'm still a bit concerned.

It just concerns me as I've had Norton for quite some time now and have downloaded and played each of these games numerous times over the past year or two. I've never had this occur before.

So what exactly is this file and what does it do for the game? Anyone know?

I'm a bit paranoid since both these games are free to play and I know free things have this annoying habit of selling out to adware and spyware groups and things. Just making sure this isn't some unsavory ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that got slid in with a recent update.

I'm hoping that someone can provide some very clear information on what exactly this .dll does and is needed for. Otherwise I will be simply passing over these games and ignoring them entirely.

I know game called Secret World uses this as part of their UI for the ingame shop, ingame browser and few re-active windowses.

I would imagine thats what the games you mentioned use it as well. I cant speak for your awesomnium.dll but the one i got with Secret World is perfectly virus/worm free and safe to use.

yes sir
Alright. It seems to be coming from the Planetside 2 install. They never really had much of a "shop" in that game. You went to their website and bought game credits in the form of "station cash" and then could use it ingame instead of the normal currency to buy things. I'll post in the Planetside 2 forum and see if I can't get any more clear cut information.

Thanks again for the replies.

I was speaking more in overall, they could use the awesomenium for things like menus, maps and pretty much anything that can be toggled on/off.

Ah I got ya. Checking into it more. Just seems strange to me that I've played Planetside 2 so many times in the past and never had this occur.
