i already tried to reinstall, restart steam... nothing :(
The verification cache' menu, won't exit until the game is fully updated. So, if it happen to need to download 7 Gigs to make it fully updated, you won't be able to minimize the verify cache' menu until it's finishes downloading and installing those 7 gigs of data. So, your Steam Client is tied up until it finishes or unless you cancel.
As for your stuff about updates. Steam updates only work with steam games, and steam updates aren't available in file format. They are all managed by Steam. Retail updates aren't compatible, and if you've tried to install a retail update into a steam game then that's likely why you're running into problems.
So, to uninstall your games I suggest to first use the "delete local content" on the right click pulldown menu. Then when it's done, manually delete all the rest of the files that are in the game's directory (which is located in ...steamapps/common/(game directory) It could be that the files from the outside patches are staying in the directory and are causing conflicts with steam's gaming files.
As to reinstalling Steam Client.
Delete all the files and folders in your Steam directory except for the Steamapps foldier, and Steam.exe. Then double click on Steam.exe. Steam Client will redownload and reinstall itself.
As for a download stopping at X%. Try a different download region. Open up Task Manager go to networks and check that graph isn't flatlined at zero, if it's not then leave steamclient on overnight and see if there was any progress.
This worked for me, on a PC
1. Go to your steam folder
2. Delete every file inside except for the Steam.exe and the steamapps folder (which contains all your games)
3. Restart your computer
4. Open steam through the Steam.exe and update
please help, the download keeps suspending, whenever i run the download, it gets paused by itself after few seconds..
Steam>Settings>Downloads will bring you here and choose an area from a drop-down menu.
