Team Fortress 2: Hacking accounts?

So I've heard a little rumor through word of mouth that your steam account can get hacked through TF2 because of the trading system being able to ID something within your account and I'm a little concerned about it though granted I don't play TF2 often (This is the main reason why)

Can someone give me some solid information on what exactly this is and how i can prevent it were I to start actively playing TF2?

Sounds like a load of BS spread by folk who got themselves "socially engineered" and had their account compromised as a result. You shouldn't believe every rumour that flies down the pike.

No way. If it were true, nearly every account would be comprimised. Next time, don't believe everything you read on the interwebs.
