Final Fantasy VIII in Fullscreen

Hello everyone!
I bought Final Fantasy VIII couple days ago and really enjoyed it. After I have launched the game today, it did not start in fullscreen mode, I only have a small window. (and I cant even maximze it), even though fullscreen mode is enabled in the settings. After playing around with different configurations in the settings menu it still wont launch in fullscreen mode.

So maybe one of you guys might have an idea.

Untick Keep Aspect Ratio in the game client's settings.

Can you take a screenshot of your issue? To show if it's on the software side though.

What if you re-tick the Fullscreen Mode box? (Un-tick it, launch and then tick it and launch again.)

The Aspect Ratio is just so there's no black bars in fullscreen, I appearently read it somehow weird at first.

I did that as well... I just dont get it, 2 days ago it worked just fine.

While farfetched, you could try Verifying the Integrity of Game Cache.

To do this, go to Steam -> [Library] -> FINAL FANTASY VIII -> *RMB* -> Properties -> Local Files -> <Verify Integrity of Game Cache>, this should repair / validate most of your files.

I'll try to look into it if I can find a solution, but that's one I can still throw from the simple ones.

okay verifying the game cache didnt work either. Still stuck with this tiny window *sigh*

Try pressing Alt+Enter while the game is running. This combination works in a lot of applications to switch between Fullscreen and Windowed.

thx for the hint wilco, that was actually the first thing I tried but it wont work either...

even after a complete new installation of the game it still wont work. T.T

Not sure if this is still an issue for you as this post is pretty old, but I just encountered the same thing. What fixed it for me was deleting the "ff8video" cfg file under documents/Square Enix/FINAL FANTASY VIII Steam

What this does is forces the launcher to create a new file and rescan your system for optimal settings. Just don't touch these.

The game seems to take issue with rendering in 60Hz on my PC and that was the root of the problem. Try setting whatever resolution you have to the 30Hz version.
