Xbox 360 Wireless Controller with Play and Charge Kit is not Wired controller?
I bought Xbox 360 Wireless Controller with Play and Charge Kit. It does not say anything about using it with Windows. I connected it via charging kit. I thought- it would make it work like wired controller, but I am afraid- it is not going to. I also ordered Microsoft receiver but for some reason it was out of stock on most sites and may not come any time soon... I can see Xbox 360 controller in my devices manager, it even states that it connected via play and charge kit. Any way to make it work as wired via this kit? Thank you.

is there a sync button on the charge kit? if there is youd have to push it and the sync button on the controller

No, you can't make it work via the play and charge kit. The only thing it will do is confirm it is a 360 controller and then charge it.

I think there are some convoluted ways to make them work wirelessly with a reciever, but it's cheaper/easier to just buy a wired 360 controller.

Thank you for your replies. My TV is about 20 Ft away from this computer, this is why I did not want wired option- I already have cables and wires everywhere. Convoluted ways for wireless? I thought- wireless with receiver was plug and play. (I also thought- it would work with charging cable- lol). To me- if I connect it to USB port- why would it not be useable to play wired? But then again- Microsoft has their own way to do things... I can not return open plastic box now, and it was $65- it needs to work.

the charge kit would need a wireless receiver built in other wise how would the controller communicate witht he PC? there were a ton of receivers on newegg for around $10 last time i checked. go check it out!

It's because the port that it plugs into on the wireless controller is not set to communicate data back and forth, merely charge.

And as far as getting the wireless controller to work on your PC, maybe Microsoft has updated drivers since, but the last time I bothered was many years ago and there were ways to do it that involved 3rd party programs and drivers.

Just get a real Microsoft one. They are around the same pricing as the cheap generic ones on Ebay or Amazon.

If u get a generic receiver, chances are they don't work properly, or last as long, etc.

I know plenty of people who tried the generic ones and have all sorts of issues. Yet the real Microsoft ones actually work fine without issues.

The receivers and controllers should work under Win8 and 8.1, just install the drivers meant for Win7, just be sure that if it is 64bit OS, that u use the 64bit Driver Software is all.

Tasty, this product had this "Five Star" mark- I thought- it was manufacturer name. Also- this product is shipped from over the sea and would take 5 to 15 days to ship.

The charger would not need wireless receiver if it was designed like PS3 controller. PS3 controller uses BlueTooth for wireless, but works with 3rd party software wired via USB port with charging cable. Would expect the same fanctionality from Microsoft. I was using MotionJoy and it works ok, but unnoying to set it up every time you ready to play, and folks here said- it is a spyware, so I did not install it on this build.

I ordered supposedly real Microsoft one yestarday- it was $16.99 on amazon and is not shipped yet.

ive heard ps3 controllers dont have drivers for windows, and you need to use 3rd party programs to get them to emulate an xbox controller on windows, xbox controller you just plug in and play. id expect the same functionality from sony =P

They dont. As I said- I was using Motion Joy. I also tried PS4 controller- Windows recognize them, but not Steam games. It just that I think- every wireless controller should be able to work wired as well. It should come with wire.

that would be cool. but would probably push the price up more than they already are. i personally think its stupid as hell that controllers are 50+ bucks as is. controllers used to be cheap and systems came with 2 of them and a game!

That is correct Sony has not released Xinput drivers which is waht most games use including Steam's BPM. Ergo it wont work

DO NOT USE MOTINOINJOY. It is chinese malware and essentially a trojan waiting to happen. Install at your own peril.

In order to use an xbox controller you got on a console, you need the xbox wireless receiver. These can be had for around $15.
