Steam fix, works 100% (FATAL ERROR: STEAM NEEDS TO BE ONLINE TO BE UPDATED)

I found a really working tip for this error.
All you have to do is just re-install steam in a different directory,mine in on local disk D.
You can install steam on whatever directory you have.
this fix works 100%, i tried it on my friends computer too
here's step by step tutorial:
1. uninstall steam from your computer, steam is located at
Windows
(32bit) C:\Program Files\Steam\
(64bit) C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\

Mac
Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/Steam
2. then download steam installer at http://store.steampowered.com/about/
3. install steam, change install directory to another directory, mine is data d:\steam
4. start steam, it needs to be updated first
5. enjoy!

Uninstalling steam will remove all of your downloaded games.
