wired xbox 360 controller won't work on PC
When I tried plugging it into the usb slot of my pc, the controller didn't work. The all 4 green lights in the middle lit up once and that's it. It worked perfectly on my 2 laptops before so I don't get why it won't work now. I thought maybe it was the controller so I bought a new wired controller, and that isn't the problem. The same exactthing happens. What should I do?
Things to keep in mind before you give me advice:
- Controller wasn't detected at all
- Worked on 2 last laptops and I bought another usb controller but it still had the problem, so the controller isn't the problem
- The light in the controller blinks once and then stops
- Afterglow wired controller

If there is a problem; u should then unplug the Controller; then reinstall the latest Xbox 360 Controller Drivers from MS (as an Admin) with all Controllers unplugged. Then reboot and plug in your controller.

I am not using the charging cable. I am using a usb Afterglow controller. So later I found out the problem for sure is that I don't have the drivers (may sound obvious but I wasn't 100% sure before) but when I download them and click on the Afterglow xbox 360 controller that it detects on my computer and search for drivers, it doesn't find them even though I downloaded the USB xbox 360 controller drivers already. I'm not sure what to do now. I move the file I downloaded to my 2 terabyte hard drive, I make it look for any drivers compatible with the controller in the 2 terabyte hard drive (doesn't have much in it. Just my steam games and emulators) and it says it doesn't find any drivers compatible with the controller.

Because u did it wrong...

Xbox Controller Drivers need to be installed while all controller type devices and unplugged. Some devices require this method, like most Printers for example.

If you had the installer in Programs and Features, uninstall first.
If not, install controller drivers from MS for your OS version.
Reboot, then connect your controller(s).

ok so i installed the drivers that microsoft gave me. i checked and i have a 64-bit so i downloaded that because i have windows 7. it works on my laptop. when i plug it in it flashes once and then stops. it also makes this weird sound like when you plug in a thumbdrive only it sounds more "depressed" for lack of a better word. i am not good with computers so if someone could give me very specific instructions that would be awesome :D thanks for reading and hopefully you can help!

Are you using a real wired pad or are you trying to use the plug n charge kit to go wired?

Plug n charge cables will not work. It has to be a proper wired pad or a wireless one with a pc wireless reviver.

so i installed the drivers 64-bit for windows 7 because thats what i have. it glows once but then shuts off! I got it to work on my laptop but it doesnt work here. if it helps my computer is an AlienWare x51 and the controller is a GameStop xbox 360 wired controller nothing special. Also i am not very good with computers so if you could tell me in very specific instructions how to fix this you'd be my hero! Thanks for reading this and hopefully you can help!

This is an issue with Windows 7 that can be fixed by using USB 2.0 instead of USB 3.0.

After plugging your controller on the USB 2.0 port, it will install the drivers automatically for you if your connected to the internet.

If not connected to the internet, download the 360controller drivers for windows, install and plug the controller to the USB 2.0 port.

If your computer does not have a USB 2.0 and you are running Windows 7, you might need to consider upgrading.
