wired xbox 360 controller won't work on PC
When I tried plugging it into the usb slot of my pc, the controller didn't work. The all 4 green lights in the middle lit up once and that's it. It worked perfectly on my 2 laptops before so I don't get why it won't work now. I thought maybe it was the controller so I bought a new wired controller, and that isn't the problem. The same exactthing happens. What should I do?
Things to keep in mind before you give me advice:
- Controller wasn't detected at all
- Worked on 2 last laptops and I bought another usb controller but it still had the problem, so the controller isn't the problem
- The light in the controller blinks once and then stops
- Afterglow wired controller

Mine came with a CD I had to install first, did yours?

It didin't. Both of these are Afterglow usb controllers (in case those didn't need the disc and official usb xbox 360 controllers did) and they worked perfectly on my last 2 laptops just by plugging them in.

Install the Xbox 360 Accessories Software 1.2 64-bit for Windows 7 (Hope you aren't running 8 or you may run into problems). Here's a link[www.microsoft.com]

Hope this helps:csgohelmet:

Merry Christmas:csgostar:

you have to install the Xbox drivers from Microsoft. 2 :> if its a sabertooth, some games dont recognise it as an Xbox controler and you have to regiedit it and change the name from Sabertooth razer to Xbox360 controller. I had to do this.

I have an Afterglow controller. Normally it plugs into a PC and just works for the games but it didn't this time. The last 2 laptops I had were Windows 8 but this PC I built is Windows 7. I don't know if that might be a reason why it isn't working automatically. My pc isn't even detecting it. And getting the driver software from the link you gave me isn't making it work either.

Noet that the "Charge and Play" cable DOES NOT actually connect the xbox via USB.

I am not using the charging cable. I am using a usb Afterglow controller. So later I found out the problem for sure is that I don't have the drivers (may sound obvious but I wasn't 100% sure before) but when I download them and click on the Afterglow xbox 360 controller that it detects on my computer and search for drivers, it doesn't find them even though I downloaded the USB xbox 360 controller drivers already. I'm not sure what to do now. I move the file I downloaded to my 2 terabyte hard drive, I make it look for any drivers compatible with the controller in the 2 terabyte hard drive (doesn't have much in it. Just my steam games and emulators) and it says it doesn't find any drivers compatible with the controller.

Nevermind. I finally got it to work. Thanks guys!

Did you installed the drivers and checked the usb port?

I went to device manager and then instead of making it look for the drivers in a folder I clicked the option under it which showed drivers I have available to download so I clicked the one that worked for the controller. Yeah, I feel stupid.

I'm having the exact same problem except my laptop's a Lenovo and it wont even recognize my controller, it worked when I plugged it in the xbox. Could you tell me exactly what you did to see if it'll work for me too?

I'm having the same problem but don't know what to do when it asks me to find drivers. I've installed the microsoft 360 controller drivers, but have no idea where they're stored file-wise.

Do you allow your laptop to automatically download drivers via Windows Update?
