PS2-USB converter not recognized. Please help. Total PC idiot.
I posted this in the Sniper Ghost Warrior 2 Comm and got no response. Thought I would try here. Please speak clearly, as I am not a comp nerd and know very little about what I am doing when it comes to all this.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A friend of mine just turned me onto Steam. I am unsure of it as I am not really into PC gaming, more of a console guy. I bought a PS2-USB interface so I could try my hand at PC gaming but still use my controller.
Problems:
1. I can't seem to get my controller to work on the demo I downloaded. How do I accomplish this?
2. I watched a video a guy posted on youtube and it made very little sense to me [], as I know just the basics about computers. I can't find the game files that he talks about anywhere on my comp, and the link he has for the "msvcp" files led me to a site that I was not able to figure out what to download; it all looked like advertisement traps to me.

Please help. If I can't use my PS2 controller I will delete my Steam account and just go back to console gaming.

Well for one if the game does not support gamepads then youll have a download a program like xpadder. Also I have no idea how it works with PS2 controller, but with my xbox 360 wireless i have a wireless usb thing and I had to download some drivers to get it working.

Here is a youtube guide of someone setting up one on their PC:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Icvx4SnxQsQ

But like I said you will need xpadder or a similar program for any game without official gamepad support.

First of all, don't delete your steam account, second, you should be able to connect a wireless controller by plugging into a USB port a connecter for your controller, third, just look up more videos on youtube or ask some of your friends whom play on PC.

Note that the PS2 controller, even if you magically get it to work, is not xinput compatible so it wont work on most game anyway

Save yourself a LOT of hassle and just get an xbox controller

i really strongly recommmend the Logitech controller or an Xbox 360 controller or the PS3 or PS4 controllers for PC if you are going to use PC. Because they are just like the console controllers and Windows knows instantly what the hell they are (youll probably have to Dl a patch to recognise the Playstation controller. however i have a trick for that in Regiedit. You can make windows think any controller is a Xbox 360 controller :)

But its not that difficult, there will be a patch out there somewhere that will allow you to use your Playstation controller. PS3 controllers work on PC as do PS4 controllers. But the best 1 is the Xbox controllers, because Windows instantly knows what that is.

A few older games like Tomb raider though, have a problem with recognising the triggers wiht the Xinput, but with logitech you can change it back to dinput. so you have to map the controller using start and select instead as trigger buttons. Unless you have logitech gamepads. because all games seem to recognise the logitech duel core triggers.

I disgree with using the PS3/PS4 controollers. Since the only way to get them to work is to use the Chinese Spyware known as MotionInJoy. Why people continue to advocate this terrible piece of malware is beyond me.

Get an Xbox360 controller or a Logitech F310 or an F710.

yeah, i dont use them. i have the Xbox sabertooth (which i had to trick windows into thinking it was a regular Xbox controler, because some games dont recognise it as a Xbox controler , evern though it is lol) and the Logitech F310. Wireless pisses me off!!!

PS2 controllers are not wireless. Please thoroughly read my post. And I have watched videos and the ones I have seen explained everything in computerese that I didn't understand or they skipped steps by assuming that I know what to do just my them voicing over directions.
I have talked to gamer friends, people who use Steam, and the nerds at Gamestop. No one can give me a good explanation as to why I can't get this to work.

Well I was wanting to avoid buying another controller. If I can get my PS2 to work that would save me a few bucks. I don't have a PS3 so, for now, that controllers only function will be for the comp. I have no idea what a "DI patch" is, or Regiedit. please speak non geek english.
Is the logitech a PS2 or 3 controller?

ok thanks for the model numbers. I will look for them. Is there any software that I will need to get them to work or do you believe they are plug and play? What is the difference in the two? They do seem a bit bulky compared to an actual PS2 controller.

Thanks for the vid link. I had not seen that one. I have not tried the "devices and printers" option yet, but from what I am having trouble with is that it works on a game that I have installed on my PC, but is not recognized by my Steam game.

In all honesty you are better off buying a PC gamepad or wired xbox controller because from what Ive seen/read getting a ps2 controller to work at all on a PC is not a easy process. Right now amazon has 360 controllers for 32 bucks, which is not a bad price.

I really do not like the xbox controller. I find it very awkward to hold.

Logitech F310 or F710, there might even be a new one now :) or Xbox 360 sabertooth , but you have to change the sabertooth registry unfortunately, because some games dont recognise it as a friggin Xbox controller. So you have to type it in manually.

Also if we wait awhile STEAM is bringing out their line of controllers soon to, which is great.

What i hope though, is STEAM controllers have Dinput and Xinput to or its all easily configurable. Dinput is without the triggers and Xinput is liek todays gaming controllers with triggers.

Hey, Great, Steam controller! So I get to miss out on all the sales until I can find out if this thing works or not. I am not willing to risk buying a bunch of games and then find out I have ♥♥♥♥ my $$ away. I also have a feeling it will look a lot like the 360 (which I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate).

Thank you for explaining what Dinput and Xinput are.
