Can not log in to Steam, getting 503 service errors on forums.
Steam was working fine for me 12 hours ago. I went to sleep, woke up, and now it doesn't.

Now when launching Steam it claims "Could Not Connect To Steam Network" when trying to log me in, or sometimes just locks up without any sort of error.

The "Steam Downtime Information" thread says that downtime announcements are made over on the forums (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=784745&goto=newpost) but those seem to be down/broken at the moment, as they're giving me a 503: Service Unavailable message.

I've seen that 503 message before when I couldn't log in, but at the time Steam was down for *everyone* (issteamdown.com). This time around it seems to be just me.

Nothing about my setup has changed in the slightest. I've tried rebooting my modem and router, and I've tried unplugging them.

I've even tried reinstalling Steam, clearing the beta flag with -clearbeta, nothing works.

All I can say is the forums etc are down for everyone currently (have been for a few hrs). So most likely that is the reason :)

EDIT: They just came back up... lol

And they are gone again...

Ok, forums are back up, still can't log in.

EDIT: Ok, smashing the login window with my mouse clicker actually got it to respond and log me in. Hurrah.

EDIT2: Never mind, tried restarting to get my skins back, now I can't connect again.

Thirty hours later, still can't log in reliably. Occasionally I can log in, but I'm missing certain games I play regularly. EDIT: Oh, interesting, it forgot where my steam libraries were on another drive. Re-teaching that may restore my missing games, but I still can't log in reliably.

As I expected, Steam Support was worthless. They told me to flushconfig or check my network, which I had already told them that I had already did.

Doesn't matter. Following the manual removal instructions

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9609-OBMP-2526

and wiping the registry entries it describes followed by reinstalling into a different directory cleared up the issue. Either my registry was corrupted, or I had a corrupt file inside my installed games. I have since CHKDSKed, problem is gone.

My problem was fixed about a day and a half later with no effort on my part.
