Steam keeps crashing

Steam crashes every time I log in on my HTPC. Big Picture starts, then game updates start, then it freezes and crashes. I've refreshed by running Steam://flushconfig but this just launches steam and causes it to crash again. I've deleted all Steam folder contents except Steamapps and Steam.exe and relaunched to let it rebuild. Immediately after I log in it crashes again. I only use MS Security Essentials and have never had a problem with it previously. I've got my dxdiag log I can post.

So this is fixed and was caused by the snow effect? That's a pretty big fail.

I'll still avoid the update, we never know (my other computer is rarely connected to internet so that's not a problem).
