An error occurred while installing *GAME NAME* (Connection time out)
Recently I upgraded my PC from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 and roughly a day after upgrading I decided to buy DayZ (Standalone) I bought the game and when I tried to download it. After about five minutes of the screen saying "Creating local game cache files..." as well as "Preparing DayZ files for install..." and the loading bar below not moving at all (all seen here: http://gyazo.com/fd689c784f2ac4c669fd655399a67333.png) it prompted me with "An error occurred while installing DayZ (connection time out)" (Seen here: http://gyazo.com/164fc82fdda45541c2e2e8a8882ecf18.png). After seeing this I looked up what could be going wrong and tried numerous things (which I will list below) I ended up uninstalling Steam, restarting my PC, then installing again. This led to all my games being deleted and now I am unable to install any of my Steam games.

I have tried the following:

- Deleting "Clientregistry.blob"
- Deleting everything but "SteamApps" and "Steam.exe"
- Uninstalling Steam, Restarting my PC, then installing Steam again
- Deleting all of the Steam files then re-installing
- Restarting my Router and Modem
- Uninstalling and re-installing ".NET Framework 3.5"

Same thing here, just bought Dayz keep getting timed out regardless of download region and I flushed steam twice.
Also it's not just one game, happens to all the games in holiday sale. Probably alot of people are downloading and causing it to be slow and timed out.

Welp merry christmas. :/

I'm still having this issue, but with Skyrim. I've tried installing other, smaller games I've bought from the holiday sale with no issues. Anyone know if it's just a load issue, or if I might have an error on my end?

The only solution that worked for me is to simply wait. It sucks but it seemed to correct itself after a day or two.

Got a new game and cant play it :( Yes this issue is going on and widespread I believe.

Tried again just now, with no changes and it worked instantly. Looks like waiting is the way to go.

Guys I've Found The Cure!!!

Under Steam Settings Go Under Downloads Tab And Change Your Download Region To Another Country :) Hope This Helps I Did For Me And Please Repost

*UPDATE* Remember To Change It Back When Games Are Finished Installed!

Can confirm this worked for me.

First, go to your steam folder, then save a copy of all your game's files. Then, uninstall steam. After reinstalling, go to "steamapps" and create the "common" folder yourself. Place the backups back inside the folder. When reinstalling your games, it should say "Existing files detected" and automatically let you play. However, it'll think you're on a new computer and prevent you from trading for 7 days.

there seems to be a server problem on the east half of the US

btw if the switching server doesnt work the first time its because that server is also full im guessing the error is because this is the season where the most people are downloading at the same time and its overpressuring the servers so the best way to fix this is to pop from server to server till it works
