Gaming Laptop unplugged = low fps?
So hey guys,

I am playing on the lenovo y510p with the Nvidia gt755m and Intel i7 Haswell. (Win 8 64bit)
Well if I play TF2 with my laptop plugged in i get about 50-80 FPS but unplugged only 20~30.

I tried:

- Setting Baterie options to high performance
- Setting my Nvidia gt755m as primary graphics card
- And differnt options to get better performance

I hope you guys can help me I am frustrated as ♥♥♥♥.

Edit:

I fixed it! All you have to do is: right - click on your desktop > go to nvidia graphicscard settings > go to options > and set nvidida power management to maximum!

Sounds like power saving mode. Check your power options and enable performance even when not plugged in.

The reason the frames drop when unplugged is because the laptop was designed to preserve as much power as possible. But you figured it out. Congrats.

yeah thanks!

Depends on the laptop, my laptop can perform at the same performance while on battery, however it greatly reduces the amount of battery time, due to running at max performance during this.

Try going into NVIDIA CP > Manage 3D Settings > Global Settings > Power Management > Prefer Max Performance. Then Apply, and then try running your game on battery.

You may also need to go to Control Panel (or click on your taskbar battery icon) and change the Power Options Profile to High Performance.

EDIT:

OK goody, sorry I did not see your added info above.

While running on battery though, just know that your time will be greatly limited during max performance gaming. Once the game has been loaded up for a few mins, quickly ALT+TAB back to your desktop and mouse-over the battery icon to see how much battery run time is left. This is not always accurate, but it can help u know how much time left before u need to plug in AC power or shutdown the system.

Try not to let it run down to a point where the system is going to just shutoff, helps to give it a break every now and then and plug in AC power. Not just to charge the battery, but to also exit your game and allow the fan to cool off the internals. If you run to a point where it just shuts off, that can be harmful over time, as it will take a very long time for the internals to cool down without any fan running to do this. Thus could damage the internals over time.

Yes, this is happening to me too and I need it fixed. Thanks for the advice, "Bad Motha", but unfortunately it didn't work either.

Plug it in ~ that's the fix!

You usually will not get full power off a battery!

Only a few I've seen will do that, like Alienware and a few others. As their battery actually outputs roughly the same as the AC adapter.

M8 Most gaming laptops have his one feature that u can't change so if you are going to take your laptop somewhere else away from your home don't forget your laptop charger cuz you will need to plug it in everytime u play a game but not when you are watching the videos and also they say that charging your laptop everytimes will kills its battery but i think if its a gaming laptop it might be okay but i don't know ! So please if anyone knows anything about that pls reply cuz i really want to charge my laptop everytime and im afraid it might turn my laptop battery into a dead battery. mai asus rog gl551jw also haves red backlit keyboard ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
