Rockstar Social Club - Rockstar refuse to help.. maybe you can?
Hi all,

In 2019 my email address that was previously associated with my current Steam account was compromised. I did not get access to said email address again but the Steam team supported me in transferring my account to utilise a new email address.

That same old email address was also associated with the Rockstar Social Club account I used back then.

Because of Rockstar's adamant requirement to have a Rockstar Social Club account just to play RDR2, I can't play my own game because I don't have access to that old RSC account anymore. I've reached out to them with as much information as I can possibly provide, including screenshots and proof of payment for the game, in order for them to transfer ownership over to my new account set up using my new email address. I even proved to them I owned GTAV through Steam which was also associated with that same account. They just keep coming back saying they don't have enough evidence to prove I am the owner of the old account or the game. It's ridiculous and it's made me feel crazy. I don't know what else to do.

Anyway - my last resort question is - if I was desperate and asked Steam to remove RDR2 from my Steam account and then repurchased it and signed in to RSC with my new email address, do you think that would work..?

Thanks.

Removing a game from your account doesn't erase the license. And that license is associated with your inaccessible Rockstar account.

One of the reasons why you can't do this is because you would be able to use it to avoid game bans. Delete the banned game, re-buy it, all clear.

You may have to create a second Steam account for RDR2. Obviously recovering your old account would solve your problems. It also might make sense to just buy the game directly from Rockstar and avoid Seam altogether as losing access to a 3rd party account can complicate things.

Aside from that you should do everything you can to track keep track of recovery codes and options in case of instances like these. The one downside for gaming accounts ease of account creation is they don't often have a lot of strong identifying information which can make account recovery difficult. If it all relies on your email and you lose that, well that's a problem. So you need to do everything you can to protect yourself on both ends.

Can you not recover your old email address? which in turn means you can access your Rockstar account and link it to your new email...

If not then only option is either to keep trying to recover with Rockstar support. Or make a new Steam account and new Rockstar account and buy new copy of RDR2.

Every time I told this story in detail on a R* game, they would remove it so I will try to help you with my own story of R* hell and my former compromised email which I used for BOTH Steam and R* Social Club.

It took me 6 months and over 50 emails, at one point, I was just saying the same things over and over but my LAST DITCH effort (and savior) was in the form of a Steam Support ticket.

The procedure that I used was to talk to Steam Support, now mind you that this only works IF you have used that same email for both Steam AND R* Social Club.

SO you send in a ticket to Steam Support based on 'Account Issues' and manually type in your request (subject is not listed or however its phrased at the bottom) and then MAKE SURE that in EVERY comment to Steam Support that you include your STEAM ID64 (which is a R* account retrieval requirement) and if you could, include you R* Social Club USERNAME under the Steam ID64 just so that R* knows this is legit and real-time, then space it, type in something such as the following below:

Hi,
I have an issue with R* Social Club email retrieval and seeing that I have used that very same email for my Steam Account access, if you could please verify that I own said email that was used for Steam Account access.

And then they will send this back to you (or a form of it):

Hi (User),

We will gladly help you out, however we are not allowed to confirm any email addresses associated with this account for security concerns.

If you can state the email in question for verification, we can kindly do so.

Then, OP, same thing, Steam ID64 then under that if applicable it is okay if you don't know it just helps, put in your R* Social Club account/user name, then space and type in your email address, send it back to Valve and if it matches their records of you using it, they will say so and THAT support ticket will verify ownership of email.

R* may also have you send in (for GTAV) the GTAV Steam Key for verification and something else small I just cannot remember it (I really should have taken screenshots) but then it could be used in bad ways so I made a good call there I think.

Oh yeah, R* asked for Steam ID64, my GTAV key which I sent in with my Steam Valve ticket screenshot and that was it because Valve is a trusted resource/referral.

I get a lot of crap here about this and people will say, that it won't work but it was my final resort besides losing all my R* games.

I hope my story helps you, OP because it's a sucky situation.

I wanted to add this, I also gave R* a screenshot of my Steam account receipt(s) for my games and that didn't cut it as R* wants that original email from Valve.

I also made another Steam ticket to CONFIRM my RDR2 and GTAV purchases: I simply asked Valve in a ticket for a "rundown of said purchases" and Valve sent me that original email through the support ticket so make sure to make a SECOND support ticket AFTER that first one to show R* that Valve does confirm your R* game(s) purchase(s).

Make sure the purchase date is on that ticket response as they freehand the receipts and cannot resend the original email.

If you get to talk with Joe from Valve Support, he is a great person.
