Anybody know why I randomly get the error called "Failed to start process for this game:"??
It doesn't happen all the time, but it surely happens randomly with multiple games where I get the error "Failed to start process for this game:" while it doesn't exactly tell me what the issue is, if i close the error dialog and re-launch the same game again, it runs properly, anybody know what's the issue is??

I've been having this issue for non-Steam games added to Steam for the past few weeks. First it gives a "Windows cannot find" error with a bunch of broken symbols in the executable's path, then Steam says failed to start process. It works fine after 2 or 3 tries.

Yes, it's happening with the non-Steam games for me too, and I swear, for me there's not even the detailed error explanation on what the actual issue is, for eg: If I launch the FH5, It just says "Forza Horizon 5" for the error dialog title and "Failed to start process for this game:" for the error dialog message, with nothing further explanation! If I close the error dialog and relaunch the same game (like FH5 in this case) it launches properly, I feel like it's just happening randomly to any game and at any time.

Also I tried to run the multiple games in the Steam at once hoping if the issue happens due to the multiple games running at once, but apparently, this is not the case because Steam ran multiple games at once just fine without showing any errrors, it's so weird issue.

Having the same issue. It's only happening with non steam games. When I try it a second time, it works with no steam/windows errors. Like others, it just started happening recently. Gotta be something with Steam that is broken. When I run the exe's outside of Steam, I get no errors at all.

At least we got to know it's happening with the multiple users and not just individually, I hope they will fix it soon because the issue is annoying TBH.
Oh damn, good to hear I'm not the only one. Is anyone else getting the first window with random characters saying it failed to find the game too?
Have you tried disabling the in-game Overlay for these games??

Sorry for the late reply, No I didn't but also I don't want to disable the Steam overlay/input because it's one of the main reason why I launch Steam/Non-Steam games from Steam in the first place.

Do the system have the resource and release other game resource, before you start the new process.

Also odd you can start the game after first fail try OP, unless system is not ready for the require game requirements, only you know here in what you have, we do not.

I could also say game do not have a first time crash and then work on second launch.

( also know as system is not idle and things not ready in the system, why this is so was also a old windows issue to many apps try things in startup aka restart windows nad not yet rdy, ( there isa dealy startup option task option if this is what you looking for. )
and again we have no clue if this si the case, we are steam user her we have no clue in what your pc is doing.

Other old steam post, you cant start a desktop shortcut up, before steam actual is started and present in button right corner in task bar.

People seem to forget most you actual get a timeout try run things then steam is not running already.

Also other issue none steam game is not a steam problem unless you try run a none steam game through steam, thats again not started yet.

Hope it can help maybe with some of the diffrent user try to solve , gl with it.

It is best not to run non-Steam games within the Steam Client as the client runs the processes harder than it should.

I tried running the multiple instances of the different games on the Steam client to see if the problem is causing due to the multiple games running at once and to see if the client couldn't able to handle it, but it didn't shown me any error thus indicating that the issue is not happening due to the multiple games (or processes) running at once, this I already stated in my previous comment.

The main problem is that it's not showing any more detailed explanation other than "Failed to start process the game:" and that's it. This makes it impossible to know what's happening on the background and why's its giving me the random error when the game will run fine on the next attempt.

I tried tried making the desktop shortcuts and then running the games from there, and I still got that error, the shortcuts are literally just the game ids that tells the client to start that specific game, it's the same process after all.

Are you also getting the same issue?

I know, but one of the rich feature of running through Steam is it gives the overlay and the most importantly, Steam input feature where you literally configure any game to play on the controller even if they're developed for the K/M only and it's highly customizable too.

I hear ya on that one.

Sometimes the Steam overlay can really mess things up, especially when used in conjunction with other overlays.

What I was doing with this was that I wanted people to know if I was developing or playing games, so I was using a "dummy" application and then just manually configuring the "statement/title" of said game/application but I was not using the Steam overlay.

I am not sure but make sure you only have the Steam overlay active and not Nvidia or MS GameBar overlays because Steam Client overlay with any combination of other overlays will really lag you out.

Another thing about the non-Steam games using the Steam client overlay is to make sure you are running Steam.exe as Administrator plus make sure that the target game is also running as Admin (plus I would make sure neither are on an active MS OneDrive backup or MS Windows Protected Folders disk).

It seems simple but this could be the solution.

Nonetheless, I will be actively attempting some trial & error on my end and if I come across a better, plausible validated solution, I will let you know about it but try running Steam and said game.exe as Admin and see if that helps you out.

Thanks for your advise!

But I really don't use the Steam to let the friends know what I'm playing, it will be just for the overlay and its input feature as I already stated.

Yeah Game bar, nvidia overlays etc are already disabled because I don't use them and I know it might hinders the performance overall of the game.

I raised the Steam issue ticket to the Steam about the issue that I mentioned in my post, If i get anything useful solution from them, I will let you and others know!

Atleast we know you have a hang game in the task or memory, why this is so , is next step.

im try to read all agin for game name , we have seen old games not get fixed by games devs they have left the build as amercian say today, aka moved on to othre project so publishe end s up with not possible to fix.

ps.
make sure you recheck store page for steam, only support win10 games, and this is not a older OS, that now has this new issue. i did not say s steam user fix is not possible or compatible might work atm most will not test this for you anymore. and we have also seen MS fix past games before, man this is a greyzone for not support OS anymore.

ps.
ask game own forum to see f this mattert at all. you need player that play the game to confirm do it work for them.

I can only say do not waste many hours on games not working anymore if thys dont support win10 as steam atm do. ( and you need other steam play to every game to tell you work fine with whatever fix someone found out, atm

There is a reason why steam made from first januar steam only support win10 games.
something like that dont get un-notice.
