Restoring from a backup reports double the size required.
The issue appears cosmetic as post-restore, the sizes of everything appears to be as expected. I tried reporting this issue to Support with screenshots, but they seem to love unrelated canned responses. I've done a clean install on Windows 10, formatted drives, re-downloaded and recreated my backups, but had the same issue. The issue appears cosmetic, but it is kind of annoying. Anyone else experiencing this issue?

I had this problem for the last few days that my downloads show as double the size they really are.
So a 20 GB game shows as 40GB / 40GB in the download list, even though only 20 GB are loaded and installed.
I don't have that issue with the download, but it would seem to be in-line with what I'm experiencing. So weird.

i am having this issue. i dont know if this is a "problem" or it is what it is.

my issue here is, when i restore Helldivers 2 backup. the size game is 89GB.
but the restore need 178GB. it is doubled the size.

is this normal or what?
With the Steam client update from 10 March 2025 Indeed yes there is this problem with the size calculation when restoring a backup. I have written to support, but I too have always received answers that are not really related or concrete to my problem. Surely the problem needs to be fixed by them.

Agreed. I've found their technical support fairly useless in some regards. They did note in my last reply to them (before randomly closing the ticket) that they were "aware of the issue", so that's something I guess.
Yes, and I too opened a ticket with various polys that followed on the basis of the answers they gave me, but nothing was getting anywhere. I hope they at least take what was said into consideration because it's obvious that it's a glitch in the Steam Launcher.

Hopefully this problem will be fixed soon not only because it is annoying because actually then when you go to install from a backup especially if for example you have had a problem and have installed that are operating system you do not understand anything.
