Steam Backup Files For Certain Games Won't Work
Dear Community

I've encountered a questionable issue which steam won't recognise the Backup files for my game and many other games I own anymore, I've already tried messing up with steam.appmanifest.acf files to see if that'll help but that didn't help.

whenever I use the "Restore Game Backup" it always automatically opens the preferred path for my backups and install whatever game I've stored in my drive, not so long ago things changed, it shows the files with their proper name but whenever I select the path the "Restore backup" option is grayed out.

*backups are always stored in my other drive and its locked by administrator just in case no one can alter them + making sure the directory to these files stay the same

*Drivers and Graphics are up-to-date and have already checked for steam client updates.

your thorough response would be appreciated

After you click "Restore Game Backup..." from the Steam menu, click "Browse" and then navigate to the drive and the folder with the name of the specific game you want to restore and then single-click it to highlight and then click "Select Folder" toward the bottom of the window. A "Restore from Backup" popup should immediately appear. If for some reason it does not then try again from the beginning. The popup should have a "Steam backups found for: [game]" message and a "Restore Backup" button. If this "Restore Backup" button is grayed-out, then there might be other reasons such as your destination drive being full or otherwise inaccessible. Could also be permissions too since you have altered them as a means of securing the backup files. You did mention that you have backed up "many other games" that you own. It is possible that if you were storing backup files of other platforms in the same location as those for Steam, then the other platform's client may as a security measure have altered permissions for everything in the (shared) directory. This conflict would need to be resolved by having non-Steam files stored elsewhere in a separate directory or, better yet, by moving the Steam Backup folders to a new directory for Steam's exclusive use.

hello sorry for the late reply.

yes unfortunately the main component of the backup file was deleted. basically the "sku.sis" file was non-existent, hence making the entire backup useless.

I tried coding the files in a notepad to classify the backup and converting into a .sis file but it was impractical so I just downloaded it again.
