Download Failed Disk write error
Steam worked fine on Linux Mint 21.2
- A week back Steam crashed and the Icon became unresponsive.
I uninstalled it & then reinstalled.
Since then...same errors:

"Note: This game was installed on a drive that is not currently connected."

Reinstalling gives error:
----------------
Download Failed
Disk write error

STEAM has write access. It creates the initial file structure / Steam files ..etc.. and a folder for each game ..but no game file install. Actual game folders are 0byts.
----------------

Games on the same drive - Fixed internal SATA drive. No USB connection etc..
OS = 256 SSD
1TB SATA 3 HD - Dedicated for Steam/games.
--------------------

I could see the game files but nothing.
- Fix Library ..
- Cold boot
- uninstall / reinstall
- OS upgrade to 21.3
----
Note: nothing risky etc done with the OS...it's a work system primarily. Spreadsheets and browser connected apps. I keep the OS pretty vanilla.
----

Purged Steam ... reinstall
Purged Steam again & the games & the games folders before reinstall
Repeated above again and wiped every folder I seen per guides found online ... Seemed I got them all, but Steam still knew who I was afterwards, so something was missed.

--------------------
Zero games will install.. All give the same error: Civ6, Black Mesa, Warhammer 40K games etc..
--------------------
I followed about...6 long form guides & a dozen other shorter guides on how to remove Steam for a 'clean reinstall'.
All end with the same error.

Read about viewing/editing .acf files... I only saw one initially:
appmanifest_289070.acf
file for CIV6 = 34 lines total & I don't see anything in there about a path I could manually amend.

Posting this before heading off for the night...maybe there's more I haven't located yet on my OS drive.

Also did the basic things:
Steam menu's to clear cache & map to the dedicated HD are all done. Maybe the name I gave is different? Is that enough to derail the whole thing? Seems overly brittle if that's it. I can't recall if I used the same name/spelling/letter case ... exactly
---------------------------

At this point is seems I need to either:
- Edit a file to force it the current location /
- Force Steam to Forget the previous games (what file /where to wipe this)
- Find a better guide to properly remove Steam completely.

If anyone's got a solid guide...I'll go through it again.

Even if you're not sure where to go - Thanks for reading.

Been having this error for a while and with the same SSD I even went to the extent of replacing it with another and amazingly it worked. But that was short lived and just recently happened again. None of those fixes online fixed the problem. What I did was a “clean all” command on the SSD with the cmd. This worked while at the cost of wiping the entire SSD, I am lucky enough to not worry about that because I only have steam games on that SSD so I could just reinstall them no problem. If you are willing to do this I will let you know it does take patience and a while to wipe it entirely but it worked for me and hopefully it doesn’t happen again. I also do wonder if it could be the cable not being securely connected but I checked and it seemed connected but I reconnected the data cable just in case and it worked. Try these both if you are able to and get back to me.

IMPORTANT: Make sure to get any important files off of the drive before you do a clean wipe
