Can't buy or activate DLC cuz the game was Activated/Installed outside of Steam

Hey!

I Have Cities Skylines 2 cuz of Xbox Gamepass. I wanted to buy DLC's inside Steam, but it's impossible. (cuz i dont have the game activated inside steam) So i bought some keys. But this wonderfull steam doesnt allow me 2 activate my codes cuz i dont have the game activated inside steam. :)))))


I cant even contact somebody to help me. So i wanted to let u know guys, don't buy DLC's if u have the base game activated/installed outside of steam.

You need to own the base-game licence on Steam to be able to activate DLC of that respective game. You can't buy a PS5 game and then DLC through the Microsoft Store for instance..

and thats exactly what it says when you try to buy dlc on steam for a game you dont own here.. you need to own the base game first.

Unfortunately you're imagining you can mix and match however you want across platforms. You can't. Buying DLC keys because the store wouldn't let you I understand your thinking. But A lot of people seem to think if the store won't allow you to do something you can just activate a key to get around that limitation. I understand the thinking, but you also need to accept that these limitations aren't some kind of cleverness test to see how well you can improvise. You made an assumption instead of doing any research to understand how the system works. You coulda guess right, but the problem with guesses is you can guess wrong.

If you want the DLC, you have to get it from MS. Or buy the base game on Steam.

Nobody can help you with your unsupported ad-hoc shopping gymnastics besides tell you that's not how things work.

I'm not sure how many people already know, or assume it's obvious and how many assume what you did. But it's not a topic that comes up daily though or in vast numbers, so that might signify something.
