Hey, im just getting used to steam. Could anyone explain the market system and the gem system. Id be grateful. Thanx! :)

Gabe so whipps our backsides.
We've had gems what 1 month or so (maybe less) and when it's down for two days there's a panic.
Oh well, I do like my booster packs ... and hate 5 pages of backgrounds.

I have a question, if you convert your emotes and backgrounds into gems, do you lose both permanently, or do you still keep the ability to use the background and the emote?

anything you convert is destroyed and thrown into limbo (like hl3), this helps prop up prices and encourage more purchasing on the market. you do not retain the ability to use the emote or background. tested with vanguard princess, tf2, and csgo emotes

So you have to decide what your actually going to use (which is probably minimal) and what you want to gem/sell.

so the booster pack button is on the badge page, not the store page?

Yep on badge page. Which makes sense, but I can see where it would be useful to have it on the store page.
