DirectX Problem, Games wont work
Hey Guys

I have recently updated my dirvers on my laptop and now hardly any game will work. Before the updates I never had any kind of problems. The Error messages are often quite similar and lead to the problem, that something with my Graphics card or its dirver is wrong. I ll give you a few examples of the Error messages:

Devil May Cry:
"Failed to create D3D9 Device. This can happen, if the desktop is locked"

Rogue Legacy:
"No suitable graphic cards found. Unable to create the graphic device"

The Witcher 2:
"Direct 3D 9 Device initialization error"

Some other games though work prefectly like Total War: Rome 2 etc. I tried updating my DirectX
but to my knowledge this isnt possible, since the DirectX is part of the regular windows updates.

My speccs are as follows:

Acer Aspire V3- 772g
Intel Core i7-4702MQ 2.2 Ghz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760M
32 GB DDR3 Memory

Any tip or suggestion is highly appreciated!

Thanks very much in advance!

what drivers exactly , and did you install again to exclude corruption when you installed it the first time?

that caused it , you installed drivers for your lesser intel video.

you want to use the nvidia video.

1. Right Click on Desktop
2. Select nVidia Control Panel
3. In left panel select "Manage 3D Settings"
4. In right panel select Global Tab
5. Under "Preferred Graphics Processor" select "Auto-Select" and hit APPLY button

Now try again and see if it properly selects correct GPU. If not

6. Repeat steps 1 thru 3 above
7. In right panel select "Program Settings" tab
8. Under section 1., check the box for "only programs on this computer"
9. then hit the "Add" button and find the program that you want to run on nVidia card
10 Go down to section 2. and select nVidia processor

Driver updates = those settings are now all defaults again.

Go to NVIDIA Control Panal > Manage 3D Settings and set the NVIDIA GPU (or High Performance GPU) as the Default one and APPLY.

If DX issue persist, download the full DX Runtimes from MS website here:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109
and re-install under an ADMIN account. Please note this download is not a single click self-install. You must choose to extract the files (like to C:\Directx) and then run the DXSETUP.exe from said folder (as an Admin).
To fully get away from all those errors, do the following.
1. Delete all graphic drivers (+Directx) from control panel
2. Restart the computer
3. Download directx (the newest)
4. Download Geforce drivers (The driver, from those who made the card) or from Nvidea, if you cannot find.
5. Let Geforce experience update
6. Restart computer
7. Reinstall the games
8. Check windows update, if there is anything which haven't been updated.

If there still is the same error, please contact Nvidea support, because they know better than us :P

the internet is smarter than anything , so smarter than nvidia support :P
Yeah, but they can find the right solution for the problem.

should be pretty basic stuff that you can fix clicking things.
works for me.

Ye, but it sounds like a database error. And the best solution to that, is to reinstall every driver from that "database".

database error , new to me.
I google when I need to fix that one sometime.
not now.
