Dumb Question: Which controllers or gamepads work best w/ Steam?
I've been playing a few titles, ( platformers / rpgs ) & they WORK with mouse ect but I think a game pad would be a better option.

Which are the best ones? Where do you buy them? Thank you much. :D

i am loathed to say it but xbox360 controller works best, easiest to set up and most games with controller support assume that you have a 360 pad. you need to buy the one that comes with the reciever for windows or the wired usb version.

I have a wired Xbox 360 controller and it's just plug and play, no need to fiddle with drivers.
As said above, I would go for Xbox 360 controller if I were you.

As long as it has full XInput support any controller should work in theory. PRoblem is, many third party controller have shoddy XInput support making the XBox 360 controller the best solution at the moment. Let's see what the Steam controller can pull off.

The Xbox 360 controller works with everything. If you don't want headaches get that.

Until steam controller gets released, XBOX 360 controller is probably the most supported, not only by stream but also by most 3rd party games

i have a wireless 360 controller and the wireless reciever and it works great
pros
easy to use and set up
360 headsets work with it for chat

cons
$$
controller can only be turned off by removing battery or waiting for it to shut off from idle

Thanks, everyone!

I only own a PS3, PS4, and 3DS so I'll have to get a 360 controller.

I'm assuming Ebay, Best Buy, Gamestop, ect would have the ones that are compatible with Steam? I wonder who has it cheapest...

You shouldn't have trouble finding one in any of those stores. You can try Amazon. I got mine there a couple of years ago.

Yeah xbox360 controller is the best bet and if it doesn't work when you plug it in a quick google search will yield the Microsoft website and drivers for it.
