How To Connect Ps3 Controller To Pc/Laptop?

I have my ps3 and my ps4 controller with me but i wanna use my ps3 for steam so how do i connect it so i can play games with it instead of using the keyboard?

i just downloaded it but do it matter if i have a regular usb cord or do i have to have the same one that came with my game? Either one charges my controller and connects to my laptop but the one that didnt come with my ps3 causes the controller not to appear on ds3 or beter ds3

or you just buy a pc compatible xbox controler.
as far as i know there are pc only ps-controler aswell but you should check online shops :)

theres a way to connect ps3 controller to pc and i have done it im now asking does it matter what usb i use for ps3 controller i dont have the orginal cord but i have a secondary that charges my controller just fine but will it connect
