Steam won't recognize that I already purchased some of my games and is asking me to buy them again.
I am trying to play FTL, DayZ and a few other games that I have had for quite a while but when I click on the desktop icon for them they either bring me to the steam store to purchase them or they say I have to request access from myself which I do not know how to do. Can somebody explain to me how to fix this?

I don't. I have had the same one for 2 years and I just started having this problem a few days ago.

Neither of the games you mention have ever been on the account you are posting from. You MUST have created another account somewhere along the way....

I only have one Email so wouldn't it be impossible for me to have two accounts?

It says
"Hi Looshnog55, would you share access to your steam library on this computer?

Thanks, Looshnog55."

So it is having me ask myself for permission but I don't know how to give myself access. How do I do that?

This is an obvious sign of a second account. You need the log in information for the other account to set up Family Sharing.

help desk seems to be down so I can't link the FAQ right now...

Is it possible to accidentally make two accounts?

You can have multiple accounts on one email address. Entirely possible and happens all the time. We have such threads at least once a week.

With the same name but different passwords or something?

I honestly have no memory of making a second account but if for some reason I do have two accounts with the same username how would I figure out the password to the other account? And why would all of those games I can't play still appear in my library?

The community name is not unique. What's important is the login name, that one must be unique.
You have those games listed in your other account because they are still installed on your PC.

because you can play them through Family Sharing, once you have the log in info...

no not steam accounts with the same name.

you can not create a steam account with an email that is already used.
you can change accounts to the same email after account creation.

it is clear to us all you have another account somewere from the start.

did you have any friends on steam?

The account I am able to access has all of the games in the library though... so why can't I play them?

And no, I have no friends on steam.
