Are the passwords that you are making longer than 64 characters? The Steam website and phone app accept longer passwords than the Steam client accepts. The Steam client will cut off your password after 64 characters.

Also make sure that there are no extra spaces at the end of the account name and no extra spaces at the end of the password.

After several futile attempts at changing my password, i noticed that I get a separate email with a code for "Steam Guard". I have tried entering this code to verify my account - I am using the same laptop I used before when I was able to login so I don't understand why this is necessary - but even after entering the steam guard code and seemingly getting my account fully verified, when I try to login on the desktop app it is still telling me that my password or account name is incorrect.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Steam but this does not fix the issue.
I have created an alternate Steam account on the same email address and I have no problems logging in on the desktop app with this new account.
I am able to login on the steam website with my old account and have tried disabling Steam Guard through the account details page but this does not fix the login issues, and I cannot post on this forum with it disabled???
The problem was something to do with the account name not being recognised when I typed it in to the box. I got it to work by writing my account name in a word document and copy/pasting it into the box instead.
No idea why that should work instead, such a dumb bug that Steam needs to get fixed, but I''m just happy that I'm now able to redownload my games.
