Steam causing screensaver not to run

Recently I noticed that my screensaver had been failing to run after long periods away from my desk. Through testing, I determined that having Steam running in the background was causing the problem. When I restarted my PC (Windows 7 64-bit) the screensaver would work normally. After starting and then closing the Steam program, the screensaver wouldn't work. Then after immediately exiting Steam running in the background, the screensaver began working again.

This is a fairly recent phenomenon -- I've only noticed it in the past several days -- so it's likely something to do with a recent Steam update.

This is both a report and an inquiry for any insight into what changes to Steam caused this and whether there is anything that can be done to fix it on my part beyond manually exiting the Steam app running in the background.

There is flash running on the front store page. That might stop the screensaver from doing its thing. Or is it happening if you have steam open on other pages as well?

Thanks for the replies and the link. Actually, it's happening with the Steam "window" closed (not open on any page). Unless when running in the background it's still considered open on the last page before closing it. I'll have to test that out.

Well, that was it. I tested it with the Steam window open on my library page and the screensaver started right up on time. Strange that even with the window closed it's still considered "open" to the last page before closing.

I am having the same problem. With the latest update from steam it began happening. I am also running Windows 7 64 bit. I found that if steam is running in the background the screensaver will not start. Right click the steam icon and exit and the problem is solved.
