Is it safe to add a game key on steam account?
TL:DR
If i get a game key from an user or from a website and (without that i know it before) eventually that key isn't legit for any reason, will the game just being removed from my account OR is there a risk something bad happen to my account too (eg. account banned)

---

Hi all! i wanted ask to you all if it is safe to add a key on the steam account, the reason is because i can't find an official source that confirms that it's ok to add keys and nothing bad happen to the account. I've read on steam site that if someone receive a steam gift that isn't legit they just remove the gift and nothing happen to your account, because you didn't personally buy the game so it's not your fault, but what if you add a key from any source?

Specifically i want to ask if my account can be banned if someone give me a key that is supposed to be a totally legit key but for some reason is not (either by trading or by a website that sell game keys), will games just be removed in the worst case? or since i've added they key is there a risk they think it's my fault and ban me?
Sorry if i'm a bit paranoid but would be nice to know! Thank you.

I've used game keys before, preferably from MMOGA.. and it's been fine for me - Steam wouldnt't have the option of inserting a game key that it recognises if you wern't allowed. As long as you purchased it from a reputable site, and Steam can recognise the game (key).. then I don't see the problem.

Wait for more replies though, see what other people say.

Thanks for reply! yes sure it have sense, but i would like to know what could happen in the worst case (to my account) if the key is for some reason not legit..since if i add the key i'm not aware that is not legit, of course.. or i wouldn't add it.
I just don't want get in trouble! :) And yes I'll wait for more replies.

(removed quote)

Just an FYI, reputable sites don't need to be censor bypassed to post them.

Well that site has always delivered for me without any delays and seems to be professional enough. Maybe Valve just doesn't enjoy business not going directly through them, hence the censoring.

Believe what you want, but don't advertise unauthorized resellers here.

Usually they would just remove the game from your library if it comes from a bad seller. Sometimes even when using a bad seller you MIGHT get lucky and it might not be revoked, however I would never suggest doing this.
