Buying Software on Steam

Hello - considering the Mari Indie deal here on Steam but have questions. It says the software is tied to your Steam account. What does that mean exactly? If anything ever happened to my account I would lose possession/use of the software? Does it have to be launched from Steam like a game? Will it be automatically updated like the games are? Any other aspects to this I should know about before purchasing?

I think that once the software is binded to your account, you cannot redistribute, sell, or share the software with any other users. It can also mean that the software is region locked into your account region only and cannot be locked to others for certain purposed. Perhaps, you are even right about your own point where if anything happens, you can lose possession but I do not think that's the case entirely. It should be one of the two guesses that I have pointed out in the beginning.
