Are STEAM Game/Gift Giveaways allowed?
Hi Guys

I have bought a few games as gifts sent to my inventory for later trading. While there is a 30 day trading block you are able to send the gift to a STEAM user directly.

Then I thought, instead of trading I could also give them away maybe.

I'm fully aware that it is not allowed to sell those gifts through 3rd party sites and I'm not doing that or plan on doing that.

My question is in regards to giving them away as part of a publicity campaign (If that is what you call it)

I would like to host a giveaway at some stage in the future on my YouTube channel during one of my videos and was wondering if that would be OK.

I'm not selling the game. A name will be drawn randomly and I plan to send the selected person the game through STEAM directly.

Off course, to me that sounds fine and I don't see that I would be breaking any policies (I read them in regards to trading and selling gifts) but I thought I check first to be very sure as I want to keep my account in good standing.

I know I could send a support ticket to STEAM but before I do I wanted to check if anyone in the community knows first.

Kind Regards,
Kickz

I'm not aware of any problems with this. I've read the rules myself a couple of times to check various points or refresh my memory, and nothing I've seen suggests you can't do this.

As long as the game gives you the option to gift it, then you can gift it to anyone on your friends list. Where you might get in trouble is if Steam caught you trying to get money for it, but since it is a free raffle/lottery, you are fine.

Whether you send a game to a friend for his birthday, or you use it as a bribe to get more YouTube subscribers is entirely up to you.

Rest assured that you aren't breaking any rules.

You owe nobody an explanation.

Thanks for all the replies.

I was planning on gifting a game in a raffle ones I reached 500 subs to one of the subs that wishes to participate, another at 1k and so on and so on.

So rather than using the raffle to gain more subs I'm planning on getting the subs first and then celebrate the milestone(s) with a raffle.

I just wanted to make sure I don't log in one day and I'm banned :)

Thanks again.
