Mic suddenly stopped working today. Steam mic test doesn't pick up mic. HELP!
Today while in game (CSGO) I suddenly noticed I wasn't transmitting sound to my teammates. I use Skype and C3 to talk with my other buddies. But I still talk to everyone else through the in game voice chat. So after the game, I check my lines, they are good. I check that my headset is the only mic enabled for windows, That is also good. Than I try and use the steam mic test, but now it doesn't pick up any sound. I clicked detect audio device plenty of times, my mic is the only one selected. And still nothing. Steam mic test still doesn't pick up any sound and my ingame push to talk keys are all set right. My mic works for everything else, and it used to work with steam. Now everything is good but Steam. I just cant figure it out. I tried everything I know. I hope I just over looked something simple.

If anyone can help, I'm more than willing to listen.

I don't know if me installing different drivers in an attemp to get NS2 working would do anything but my mic works but does not register on my laptop even offline when I test it in audacity. I'm using Ubuntu

Yep, same problem. I was playing CS:GO offline with bots, next match I went into, team couldn't hear me. My friends over TeamSpeak still could hear me fine, I can record things with my mic in other programs too.

When I go to Voice in the steam settings and click on test mic, nothing happens, no sound or movement from the little visualizer bar thing.

Have any of you guys tried re-installing steam? I already verified then re-installed CS:GO, that didn't fix it.

I am Having same problem as well. I haven't found a permanent fix what I think it may be is steam itself so I am hoping reinstalling steam will work if not I will reinstall drivers

when that problem happened to me I ended up finding that I had accedentaly muted the input on my sound card so no matter what was done the mic wouldn't register

My mic works in everything but steam. I'll try reinstalling steam & update if that works or not.

Edit: Didn't work.

For me, the Nvidia GeForce Experience's Beta update wrecked it earlier.

Returned to the WHQL version and the Steam voice chat works fine again.

If that doesn't apply to you, ensure your audio input device is the correct one, try adjusting microphone boost or disabling microphone enhancements entirely.

Then try this: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=8043-EUJN-5239

It's not a Steam problem.

Rollback your GeForce drivers to fix it, it's an NVIDIA problem.

Not the drivers themselves really.

Just GFE.
Oh, my bad.

It's the stable version of the GFE introduced with 358.50. WHQL stands for Windows Hardware Quality Lab

You don't have to install GFE back.
If the issue doesn't go away with GFE uninstalled (and PC rebooted), then it's likely not the GFE.
