You need to play a game that has Steam Trading Card Drops. Play the game for awhile and you should see a new card in your inventory. Additional Card Drops may appear if you get an achievement award. The first 1 or 2 cards are usually easy to get, the additional cards take longer. You can buy them on the Community Market. Don't sell your cards unless you max out the Levels, What you get for it ($) is not worth it. I believe Trading the cards to other players may be illegal, somebody correct me if I'm wrong, please. Its not a good idea, read some or the other discussions, and you'll see what I mean. You are not required to Buy the Trading Cards in order to play the games. You use then to enhance your profile, check out some of the players to get some good ideas. By the way, just because you have a high Steam Level doesn't mean someone can play games better than you, it just means they've been a member of Steam longer and bought more games than you, and probably have access to more money than you. LOL
