Sack Of Gems Broken On The Community Market
With the auction sale back up, all gems you created were refuned. Money you used to buy gems with was also refunded, but theres one problem...

Sack of gems are currently broken on the steam market, it only shows the previous sacks you brought and listed as £0,00. But if you try to enter it, it says it's not listed. This makes it impossible now to buy sacks of gem from the market, as i brought 4 for £0.12 before they took the event down for fixing.

You can't buy/sell/trade gems anymore. It's not broken, it's by design.

Can you point me to a source for that? According to the FAQ for the new and improved Auction on the main Store page:

"Can I transfer my Steam Gems and Booster Packs?
Yes, these are Steam Inventory items that are transferable in the normal ways: trading or selling on the Steam Community Market. Steam Gems can only be placed on the Community Market after being packed up into a Sack of Gems."

Well, it looks like the exact same FAQ as yesterday, so I'd be willing to guess that Steam just failed to update the FAQ. During the last Winter Event they used the FAQ from the previous year that had the wrong minimum level for recieving cards for voting. It's been known to happen.

Ugh. If we can't buy/sell/trade these things any more, I don't see what use they'll be. Just about all the dross from my inventory has been sold away now. So, there's no way I can ever get enough gems to either get a Booster Pack or win one of those insanely over-bid auctions if I can't buy them.

EDIT: oh, I take it back. I guess I could buy other people's dross and convert that to gems. Doesn't sound like much fun, though.

Pretty much, people who don't have much are gonna be hurt alot by this event. I seriously want to win Realmyst: Masterpiece Edition. On the plus side though, bids are gonna be much lower now compared to before. (7.1M gems for the Steam Christmas Profile, ugh.)

i agree if we cant buy gems anymore how can we win auctions. I traded everything i could for gems and have almost 500 and need 15000 to bet on game i want

I believe how it's gonna work that after Dec 15 all next auctions will be only 45 minutes long, and theres 100 copies of each game to be won. Simply put, you have over 100 chances of auctions to win the game you want.

You can turn them into Booster packs which you can sell for wallet funds, if you wish.

I think it'll probably (don't quote me on this) be tradable by the events end at least. Probably when they're sure the glitch is fixed.

The minimum cost for the Booster Packs I can "craft" is 667 gems. I've got only 560 gems.
Peak of Evolution Dec 12, 2014 @ 4:28pm
unless 480 gems can get me 28$ that does me no good
Mother Serpent Dec 12, 2014 @ 4:40pm
Making the gems a way to profit (bringing them to the market) is way led to exploiter making millions of gem in less than one hour, so they could make quick cash. Putting gems on market again might not be the smartest decision here.
It keeps the bids on the reasonable level to limite getting gems by trading, playing more games (to get cards) and making badges (to get more itens).
Even if you don´t have enough to be the top bidder on the first round, put all the gems on the game you would like to receive and check which position you are on the auction; this way you can have an idea of if it´s possible to win in the future or don´t. You only need to keep in the first 100 positions (and believe me, it´s not that hard even for games that have plus than 10k as top bidder).

I guess so @Marco Vito, bids are gonna be much lower now. 100 chances should be more then enough to win a game unless bids for it are really high.

Actually the Sack of Gems listing is still on the market, despite being broken. We still have the option to make Sack of Gems (which seems stupid if it should be untradable, right?) and there's lots of change in the text posted on the Auction page.
