Input delay and cutting out
Hey,

I've had an ongoing issue for years and cant seem to find the cause. While playing any games through steam I find the keyboard inputs and sometimes mouse inputs to cut out/not register/delay constantly. For example holding w to walk and my character just stops and I have to hit the button again. I genuinely have zero idea what the cause is, It started a few years ago and i chalked it up to my PC being old. I have since went as far as buying and brand new PC and keyboard/mouse and yet the issue still remains as the issue spans multiple games my only continuous factor seems to be steam. Any and all suggestion are extremely appreciated!

What are the models of your keyboard and mouse? Where are they plugged in? Try to plug them directly into your PC rather than using a USB hub. My keyboard and mouse need a USB 3 port. I don't know what would happen if you plugged them into a USB 2 port, but, if they worked, I expect it would cause problems. Some in-game settings can cause a bit of input lag, and if your hardware is already prone to input lag, that can make it noticeable.

In really bad cases, such as plugging an older HDTV into your PC to use as a display, it can feel like forever for each keypress to be acknowledged. It helps a lot to toggle on "game mode" in really sluggish peripherals like that old HDTV. I've also got a wireless mouse, but I exclusively use it in wired mode so it cuts down on latency.

You might also want to check what options you've got set in Windows itself. You may have turned on some accessibility feature that causes key presses not to repeat or something similar. Finally, blowing cigarette smoke at your PC and its peripherals can cause issues. I have no idea how any of my mother's stuff still works, but she's got some weird problems with some of them.
