Report a translation problem
See how things go with the Desktop Layout disabled. One way to do that:
Steam > Settings > Controller > Desktop Layout > Edit.
That should open the configurator.
Click 'Disable Steam Input' in the top right.
An alternative could be adding the game as a non-Steam game and so Steam can know to not apply the Desktop Layout.
Because if Steam is open it will detect a controller attached and why you had the double inputs issue.
One of those odd issues that never seems to have the right solution.
