Try the discussion hub of whatever game you're talking about.

Considering that doesn't sound like a message from the Steamclient, the game forum is your only option to get help with a particular game.
ReBoot Feb 15, 2024 @ 12:49am
Contact the game publisher support.

Start your system in safe mode, report results.

Well, okay.
I didn't tell you to turn off your anti-virus software, though.
I only suggested you check it to see if any files had been quarantined.

You can also submit the .exe from the game to https://www.virustotal.com/gui/, which will check it through multiple AV vendors- it will check more than the one vendor you are using, and it can sometimes help to get the files removed from the lists of suspicious files for multiple vendors if the file is actually clean. If it comes back clean, *then* you add the entire game folder to your anti-virus program's whitelist, so you still have your AV running to keep your machine protected if you are doing anything else online while you have the game running.

Again- I did not tell you to turn off your anti-virus, only to check and see if any files had been quarantined. I have no idea what game you were having issues with, so I have no idea how trustworthy the game and its files are. If the game is a game you have on Steam and is being launched through Steam, it *should* be fine- Valve uses seriously good anti-virus/anti-malware software for everything in their store. But you really skipped basic online security by shutting your AV off without having the file checked.

It happens occasionally. For whatever reason they take a dislike to the exe file and block it. I had it with Dragon Age Inquisition, played through the game without any issues. Finally got round to picking up the DLC years later and the AV decided to stop it running when I tried to play it.

As others have said you should be a bit cautious about just turning your AV off. If it's a legit game from a legit source it's unlikely to be an actual virus, but not impossible. Steam's recently changed it's best practices for publishers as one did get hijacked and have their game replaced with a virus download.
