PUA.Gen.2 Help.

Hi. Newbie here.
Just opened account and downloaded sream ok.

Went to download the free play Raceroom Game and as soon as i started downloading a Norton block alert poped up.

Paused download and Fixed Norton threat. Cleared PUA.Gen.2.
Aparantly a low risk malware/unwanted app????

Any ideas/ Was it to do with the R3E download or steam? New to pc gaming so unsure if safe to continue to download.

Any help much apretiated.

Sounds like a false positive detection. Haven't heard of a case where Steam ditributed malware or viruses, ever in their about 10 years of existence.

Googled it and Norton said was a low risk malware type threat.
Nothing else downloading at the time, so not sure.
Bit off a noob and wary of virus/malware stuff.

You could take that file and upload it to virustotal.com
It would get checked by over a dozen antivirus tools. If it's only Norton that detects something, it's a false positive.

I have no idea how to do that..lol
Just hit FIX in norton and it had cleared threat. Total PC noob sorry.

The "Gen" in the file name stands for "Generic", which means that Norton "guessed" that the file could be malicious, based on its behavior. This happens a lot with Steam, as it uses files that act in a "similar" way to trojans, in that they are downloaded and then download other files.

It's perfectly safe to ignore, and you can exclude it from detection within Norton, though I'm not exaclty sure where (you can Google it).

If you get errors trying to run the game, try to restore the file from Norton, which should be in "Quarantine".

Ok thank. Just typed "PUA.Gen.2" into google search engine and read the Symatec sites responce.
