Achievements and DLC
If i buy a game but not the DLC will the DLC achievements still be active and count towards my overall completion rate or will they be hidden?

Yes. For most games the DLC achievments count towards your overall progress. So if you have a base game, but it has DLC acvievments you will not be able to get 100% completion.
