Advanced Friend Search?
Hello,

I am having trouble using the Steam Community page to find someone. The person provided me with their current profile name, but searching for that name returns over 800,000 results (not even joking) which includes people using the name, people who have used the name and people who are using/have used letters or number combinations that partially exist in the name I'm searching for. It's a mess.

My question is: Are there advanced search options for the Steam Community friends search? Like a way to search for a specific combination of letters and numbers, or to filter out names that are no longer being used from names currently being used?

Also, I am aware that if I just had the person's Steam Community website address I could just go there are add them. As of this post, I do NOT have that address and have no means to contact them. Suggestions to "just go to their Steam Community profile page" are not helpful here, sorry.

Look them up by their original Steam name or their Steam ID.

Or the super low tech idea of having them meet you in a thread like this one.
(This is an updated version of this answer to summarize itself because it was a little too bloated.)
This question on Steam seems to come up as the first search result of the question on Google for "Steam Community Advanced Search".
On Steam, there is no advanced search for the 'people', and there is only 1 that is only for names and no other profile aspects and 1 for 'communities'.
Unless the 'person' you are refering to haven't sent you a "Friend Code" from (Profile's Name)/"FRIENDS"/"Add a Friend" or "a Quick Invite" link, you don't have the link to the profile and you have only been given the profile's name, searching for it is your only way of finding them now. If you remember any aspects of the profile (like past names, set country, custom 'ID', profile image) you could take that into aspect as well.
If they, however, have changed their name and wiped all of their previous aliases and/or updated their profile drastically, there's no way of finding them now.
I would like to apologize once again and tell that I had no idea that the 'code' that is being refered to is the 'Your Friend Code', but I realized it eventually.

To answer your question, Bitz, no, there are no advanced searches like this on Steam, there is only 1 for the 'People' and 1 for 'Communities', you'll have to look through every single profile until you find the correct one. Avatars can be a mess on Steam, so you can probably hide them somehow and look only through names and past names (like hide the window over the screen itself to not to look at them, but if you are OK with that then don't hide them, but they can get very messy.) You could report these profiles, or blatantly ignore, since they may not cause too much harm than what they are doing. When searching for the profile you need, connect things such as the country they selected, their 'ID', past names to the profile and you are sure to find this profile again, just hope that they haven't updated their current name or wiped their past names. At this point you can't find them at all, so leave them be then. Since these users don't 'cause trouble' much, having the same name (while they kind of do, in a way, since this is sort of trolling) they are allowed to have the same name. And you can 'bet' there would be a lot like these. This question on Steam came up as the first search result in Google with the search question "Steam Community Advanced Search", and upon finding no answer here I've decided to add one, I'm sure that someone already said this like several times, I'm just repeating that same here, kind of.

5 year old necro of something that isn't relevant since friend codes and direct links exist now.

Guys, this isn't anything related to/with codes. This is a different kind of question here. This isn't anything tech-savvy right now. I realized now so I am answering these questions now. PLEASE DON'T POST ANYTHING CODE-RELATED HERE. Besides, they original question didn't feature anything related to code or direct links whatsoever, guys. I don't think that the original question was refering to those things.

No you wake a 8 year old post up from the grave. ( thats the first mistake and now you think things dont matter in what steam has change and do now. )

im sure this was made to find each other better.
