Help I had a imgur virus sent to me!

To start I received a steam chat message from a friend which turned out to be a link to a virus. I wasn't thinking and clicked the link assuming it was safe because it came from a trusted source. He didn't send it! Instead the virus sent it's link by itself using the friends account.
Long story short all of my items in my inventory was either deleted or stolen!
Is there a way I can get these items back?
How can I find out if any other data was stolen?
The link was to that imgur website which had four images to click and expand which started a download link... Stupid me but there you have it.
Any tips? (hold back the inevitable sarcasm because it wont help)
I know this might be the wromg forum but at least it might help someone avoid the same mistake if they get the same link sent to them.
