Old Account's email no longer exists
The email account I had attached to my old account has been deactivated (hushmail :/). Whenever I try to log in, steam asks me to type in the verification code that will have been sent to my email account, which - obviously - no longer exists, which means that I have no way of accessing my old account.
Is it at all possible for my old account to be attached to a new email address, or is it lost forever?

You can change your email from the steam client, if you can access it (auto login/remember password)

If not you can't access your account via the client, contact Steam Support

Thanks for the reply!
I can't get on to the client or on the website at all, so I'll contact Steam Support (as soon as it's back up), like you say.

My best friend is having this issue, but steam support wouldn't help him because he didn't have the receipts to purchases he made on steam (Who even keeps receipts?)

Transactions are the best form of proof for ownership of an account.

Tell him he needs to give support what they ask for.
