Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition - CD Key already in use

So when I heard of the migration I was excited. Turns out steam tells me my key is already in use. So what can I do about it?

-It's concerning a retail copy of the game, which used to be only for GFWL
-I can't go back to the store since it's out of buisness
-It was a new copy, it worked on GFWL
-I still have the key on the back of the instruction booklet, and the receipt(the entire box actually)

I'd really like to keep my save since i spend a lot of hours in it. And the migration period only allows that for a small amount of time. Steam isn't helping with very vague answers when I asked support about it. I'd like to know what I can do to keep my game and also who's suddenly using my copy.

That is of no use to me. As stated in my comment, it's about a retailer who's out of buisness and steam is unwilling to help when i contact them on the dark souls support page

If the retailer is unable or unwilling to assist you, it is recommended that you contact the game's support for further assistance.

Have you tried contacting support for the game?

They should be your next point of contact now that the retailer is now longer in existence.

Again, I contacted them and I got no help there. They just repeat what you're repeating.

Besides, the game DOES work on GFWL. It's just that it's activation on steam is already being used.

Because there was a mistake, apparently, in the GFWL to Steam key translation. You'll have to pressure Bandai Namco Support to resolve the issue.
