Can't log out of steam

I am trying to log out of steam through the app but it's not working, i click the change user bit but "One or more steam applications are currently running. To exit steam you must first shut down all steam applications" but i have nothing running? i have checked my processes over and over but nothing can someone please help?

Restart your computer.

Re-install steam

Assuming you are using windows, check your system tray for the steam icon. If you see the icon, right click it then click exit at the bottom of the list. Hope that helps.

im getting the same error too, im trying to log out of my cousin's account and it wont let me. i closed everything on my task bar manager and restarted steam it still wont let me. i restarted his computer and still nothing (still auto connects to my cousins account).

i think i just found a solution, on the top right hand corner of steam, there is a little controller that is "big picture mode". go in there and just log out of there. thats how i logged out of my cousin's account. hope this helps

Thank that helped! the problem was i bought some humble bundle games but i couldn't remember my password to log onto the site, since i usually have myself logged on all the time, and i couldn't reset it because it wouldn't let me log out through app :) but thanks again !

i know this is an old thread but i figured out a solution for people that still have problems, just go into task manager and end steams task and load it back up. It worked for me(sorry if this doesnt work for everyone).
