Which servers to unblock to use steam?
Hi all,

I am a lucky teacher at a high school supportive of students gaming. We have a gaming club, where we play various console and PC games. Steam is blocked via the NYC DOE proxy. However, we can request certain websites / servers to be unblocked, given we can provide the address.

Does anyone know where I can find a list of steam servers that are used for updates, authentication, content downloads, etc? We would mostly play Dota 2 and TF2, if that is relevant.

Thanks for the reply, Discussions! Do you know if unblocking the ports will suffice? It won't matter that store.steampowered.com itself is blocked?

So in order to get something unblocked, I need to provide them with the IP / URL / whatever needs to be unblocked. Would it be enough to just unblock the ports? Or is there also a specific range of IPs that need to be blocked?

Ports are not URLs. So what do you need?

I understand that, and Steam provides a list of ports that need to be open in order for steam to work above. However, I'm just wondering if there's more that needs to be unblocked for steam to work (say, for example, store.steampowered.com or something)

Run a traffic monitor alongside Steam on your PC. This will answer your question.
