new OS drive, how to recopy steam when using steam mover?
I'm installing a new SSD OS drive to replacing a smaller SSD with steam on it and hoping to not have to redownload games (not big deal) or lose save games/progress (def bigger deal).

My situation is a little weird - I have used Steam Mover to move about 300gbs worth of games off the first SSD to another internal hard drive. This was before steam gave you the option to install to a different directory. I also have 300 gbs of games on ANOTHER HD that have been installed directly using Steam's option to install to another directory.

Can I just copy my current Steam installation from the current SSD, install the new SSD and then install steam on it and just copy the Steam folder over top of it?

The issue for those familiar with Steam Mover is that it uses junction points to redirect. I'm not sure if those are soley contained in the Steam folder or if they are all over the OS and the new steam install won't be able to find them.

The other option (possibly) is just back up steam games somehow and reinstall and try to add the games I moved with Steam Mover as though they are non steam games. I guess I need to make sure I get their save games from a local user profile I assume.

Any pointers or advice?

Copy/paste Steamapps folder + Steam.exe , then start steam.exe when copied. All game content is in steamapps. If you have multiple libraries on other partitions, copy the entire 'steamlibrary' , then re-add the steam library via Steam > Settings > Downloads > Steam Library folders.

When done, click the games you want to install, and choose the existing steamlibrary where the game is installed. Steam should re-discover existing content.

Steam mover isn't really necessary.

Thanks for this info. Agree steam mover isn't necessary NOW, but however back when I was doing this, there wasn't an option in steam to install on different drives. Hence the program's genesis.

The main issue is the folder created by Steam Mover, doesn't look or act like a steamlibrary folder. All it has is a self-named folder and all the games dumped by folder into that directory. Doesn't have all the subfolders common to a steamlibrary folder.

Just for fun, I tried to just add that folder using the directions above and it returned an error that the steam library folder must be empty?
