60 fps capped
I am using a 120 HZ moinitor but my fps is capped at 60. It it due to my hdmi cord, and if so what do I need to get to increase the fps. The only other video port is VGA.

Are you running at 120Hz?
If you don't know, check this guide:

Some games have built in frame limits though.

Just curious, why do you need such a high fps? Isn't the human eye slower then that? Isn't constant 60 enough?

Are there still people believing that crap?

The USAF, in testing their pilots for visual response time, used a simple test to see if the pilots could distinguish small changes in light. In their experiment a picture of an aircraft was flashed on a screen in a dark room at 1/220th of a second. Pilots were consistently able to "see" the afterimage as well as identify the aircraft. This simple and specific situation not only proves the ability to percieve 1 image within 1/220 of a second, but the ability to interpret higher FPS.
1/220 of a second, that means one out of 220 frames in a second and they were still able to see it!

Interesting, thanks for the link.

If you only have hdmi or vga then that is probably an lcd tv. A 120hz monitor would have a Dual-DVI port and/or a Displayport to enable 120hz. Hdmi only does 60hz

You need to either use DVI or DisplayPort. Needless to say that adapters won't work.

From what I've read, HDMI can handle at least 165hz. I think you can check your refresh rate in the same area you change your resolution.

Its just a cable and it cannot determine the speed of the signal, the hdmi port only puts out 60hz and thats why 60hz is all you get from it.
